    Read the book, which was an enjoyable and interesting read. The man is an original and a free spirit. However I do not see eye to eye with him on many issues but that of cause is to be expected.

    Looked at the site, the book looks interesting, but by the time a copy arrives in central US it's $60.00 AU / &56.00 US. Not sure I want it that bad. Paul, want to do a more detailed review?

    I hope that the JRA will buy a copy for the library.  Of course, there are copyright issues, (she said, with feeling) but wouldn't it be cool if we could download books from the JRA library.  'Course it would be horrid to read on one's computer but one day I suppose we'll all have electric readers for just this sort of thing: books we want to read and can't afford to buy.

    I wonder if I could persuade my library to buy a copy?

    I've read the book too, considering he couldnt find a publisher and there are lots of terrible books out there that did, he is quite a good writer. I've read a LOT of cruising books and after a while they are all the same, Monsoon Dervish is a refreshing change. He describes some pretty interesting things he did and his attitude to border control/customs is hilarious, kind of the ferrel cruiser of the Indian ocean. I rate it better than most "cruising" books, though the wife couldn't get into it, claiming it was too "blokey" for her.

    Thanks for the tip, Gary. He sounds like an eccentric (+) and if it's half-off (++), my Scottish roots run deep, I'll definitely buy it.

    Unless you live in Australia, Kris doesn't send out books himself... from the email addy at monsoondervish.com.

    I sent an email Thursday and got this reply this morning:

    Hi there, thanks for the note. The only way to send the book to the States is contact The Coastal Passage, an on-line yachting magazine in Queensland, they are my overseas distributors.

    Personally I do not ship to USA, security requirements for a book in mail are a nightmare, and extra $10 in postage, also payment to forward to Australia is complicated. Bob from "the coastal passage" can help you there.

    Count your blessings, Maxime. I just got this reply from CoastalPassage:

    Hi Alan

    Your payment has been refunded.

    The paypal notice was responded to earlier, from a machine that didn't
    display your address. Obviously we aren't going to ship a book to the US
    for what was clearly stated was the domestic price. In fact we are no
    longer shipping this particular book at all. It is to be discontinued
    today.

    TCP has been supplying this book at our cost and frankly, no longer have the time or patience. We got no lower price than anyone can get from Kris personally but we have to charge GST which Kris doesn't and we include that and mailing in our price which Kris doesn't. We also accept paypal and credit cards which charge fees against us and Kris doesn't accept that kind of thing. We thought that people would understand these things but..... we got tired of being critisised for doing the community a service.
