    Hi there.

I think I better introduce myself rather than post about unavailable books.

My wife & I are building Ashiki, a baby Badger which isn't so little anymore. To explain, I had originally ordered plans for the 37'6" sailing dory (big Badger) from Jay Benford. On receiving them and running through the logistics of such a build in my head I must of had a mild panic attack, with regards of how we were going to roll such a huge hull in the limited space we had.

So, I arranged to swap the plans for the smaller 30' version, which made me feel a lot better. Then we ended up moving house, to one with a larger backyard. Measuring out the space I figured we had enough room to stretch the design 10%.  Thats how the 31'8" double ender design became 34' 10", but still with the same beam of 10', a foot narrower than the regular Badger. With some of the key scantlings beefed up, the hull was finished in about 2.5 years - a long time as we had delays and other things happening in our lives. Turning the hull was surprisingly easy (with only the 2 of us), I don't know what I was stressing about!

Now progress has sped up, working on it 5+ hours everyday (as opposed to 1 or 2 hours, 3 days a week, interspaced with many months of no progress). It is now coming along so quick I think we could finish before 2011 is out, touch wood.

In my profile are pics of the build.

Which reminds, I have a boat to build, cya...

Great to see another Badger being born. Good luck and a speedy completion so you can really enjoy sailing this remarkable boat.

Welcome aboard, Gary and Susie! At 34'-10" she won't be a Baby Badger, she'll be a Step-sister Badger. lol.  It's great to hear you going full-bore. By the looks of your pics, (thanks for those, btw,) you may well hit your mark. Best of Luck to both of you.
    And keep those pics coming.

Am eeking (eaking?) out my MB until they run out, so can't look at your site just now.  But yes, "Badger" - and it seems like all her sisters - are remarkable boats.  And somehow, the junk rig seems to have been just what they needed.  I would have given my eyeteeth for "Elsie N", who looks, and apparently is, just perfect, (bother poor Rob Groves for more info) but am becoming quite happy with "Fantail".  The best of luck with your building and I hope you launch - more or less - on schedule.

You're eking out your what? OK, I'm stumped. What are MBs?

Eking, of course, how stupid of me.  Blame my mate who had welcomed me back to my marina berth with a bottle of wine.  I think he'd been a bit worried about me in all that wind!

MBs - megabytes.  You lucky chaps in USA don't have this sort of problem.  We have very slow, very expensive Internet down here in South Island, NZ.  I can go into the library to get on line, but then have to spend good daylight hours inside.  So I invested in a dongle from Vodafone and for $30, get 512MB.  This is not a lot and is meant to last a month.  Watching You Tube is definitely not a good way to go, but even modest surfing can hammer the usage.

Come the 13th, I'm into a new month, but when I last checked I only had 49MB left!

    I knew what you meant.
That sounds a disaster! In Aust a wireless account is 2 to 3Gb for that kind of money..
