Pete Hill is not to be numbered amongst the more communicative of our members, but I hear from a mutual friend that he is to launch his new catamaran, Oryx, on 21st May at the Multihull Centre, Millbrook, Cornwall.
I don't know whether he would like JRA members to turn up and swell the crowd of well-wishers, but you could try emailing him to ask, if you should happen to be in the vicinity.

"Pete Hill is not to be numbered amongst the more communicative of our members ... "

However, perhaps we should remember "Spectemur Agendo ..."  Ajax

Sometimes translated as "Judge us by our deeds".

Taken as the motto of The Royal Dragoons (Ist Dragoons) who captured one of Napolean's eagles at Waterloo.

Ajax, the Royals, ... Pete Hill.

Does anyone have any details of Oryx?  Love to see some photos if anyone does make the launch.

Last I heard, Pete had given up catamarans as being too much maintenance, so intruiged and would love to hear his present views.

I hope he will be ready and attending the Plymouth Rally?  Certainly more encouragement for me to make the long journey from Scotland.

I used to live in Millbrook, and still have friends living there.  I have asked if somebody can attend and take a few pics for me.  If they manage to do this I will post them on this site.

This is what Pete is building - but stretched out to 10 metres:

I don't know what design the sails are, but there's a mast in each hull, naturally.

I've never been much of a fan of reverse sheer (apart from Trekka), it just looks wrong to my eyes. it's good to hear some news of what Pete is up to though.

But reverse sheer looks normal to me on a catamaran, because its the norm. Wharrams, are the odd man out.
Looking forward to pics of this boat too :)

My apologies for not communicating. Unfortunately  I have had to postpone the launch of Oryx, which I now hope to launch in July. Any members who would like to visit are most welcome and I hope there will be time at (or after) the Plymouth Rally for interested members to take a look at Oryx.
The rig will be a side by side split junk with flat sails and half wishbone battens (much help from Sleive on the shape of the sails).
I will download some pictures if I can work out how to do it.

    Hi Pete,
Being hard at work building a new boat is the best reason of all for not having time to tell us about it!! I'm glad to hear that you're into the finishing straight, even if, like all new boats, the launch date has to be somewhat elastic.

To put some photos in your profile:

Click on "view profile" (top right).
    Click on "member photo albums"
Click on "add album", title it and click on "submit".
    Click on "upload photos"
    Click on "choose file"
    Click on "upload"

And then tell us you've uploaded some photos, so that we can all admire Oryx!

    David.
