At last!  You must be rapt.  She certainly trucks along and I can understand why you didn't want to reef, but who knows?  She may have gone even faster without so much heel and weather helm.  It's going to be fun finding out :-D

Just took part in my first race against pointy sails and we were leading at the beginning and we ended up 3rd out of 5 yachts. The last two cheated and used their outboards.:)

With a clean hull and more sailing practice on my part I reckon Redwing would certainly give them more of a run for their money. My crew member who had never been on a junk rig before was very impressed with her windward performance. A few times to windward we were easily doing 6 knots, two hands on the tiller and the port gunwale almost scooping water.

I should some decent photos of her sailing soon and I'm looking forward to seeing them.:)

Some good news. I will have the "new" outboard on Redwing next weekend. The following weekend there is a sailing regatta from Fingal to the bridge at Tumbulgum on the Tweed. Barring any unforeseen stuff ups I should get to try redwing against some pointy sails and get some decent shots of her under sail.:)

I did spot a large JR catamaran named Crusader anchored on the western side of South Stradbroke island on the trip up through the Broadwater. The rig was a single mast and probably high aspect. I don't know if the owner is a member, I couldn't find it in the membership register.

My sailing trip turned into a motoring trip. NE winds on the nose most of the way, switching to westerlies up to 30 knots. Enjoyed it anyway.

If nothing else, it will probably convince you as to the values of JR!!

I'm off sailing next weekend, sadly not on Redwing but on a friend's boat. He's heading for the Whitsunday Islands and I'm hitching a ride as far as Moreton Bay. I guess one could call it a reconnaissance trip.:-)

Some good news finally, the 9.9 is in very good condition and I should have it in a week or so.
