    Bonjour Renaud-Pierre

I was the second owner of the first Sunbird 28 'Juliette' which I purchased from the Belgian first owner. I sailed Juliette over from Belgium to the River Orwell in Suffolk, England and then around the coast to the Portsmouth Harbour, where she was built by Fareham Boatbuilders on behalf of Sunbird Marine. Robin Blain, the joint owner of Sunbird with Alan Boswell, the naval architect who designed the rig, lived in the same village as myself, Warsash and he was a friend of mine who had previously helped me to convert my father's yacht 'Westerlies' to junk rig. I had actually seen 'Juliette' being built before she went to Belgium. I would be very happy to help with any information if you would like to contact me. I live in the south of Morbihan, near the River Vilaine, where I have a Newbridge Coromandel junk.

I think that Maurice Donovan was the first owner of Capricorn. If you look at Newsletter 25, Summer 1992, pages 23 - 25, there is a report on the early work on hinged battens which he and I were both involved in.

    Hello Renaud-Pierre

Better known in these parts for the Sunbird 32, Sunbird Marine also offered a Sunbird 28 and Sunbird 22. These were based on the Colvic Countess 28 and Caravela 22 hull and deck mouldings respectively.

I don't know how many of each were sold, but I have a copy of a review of the pair from February 1981 edition of Yachting Monthly if you are interested.

    Bonjour Renaud-Pierre

Welcome to the JRA and it's French "section".

If you search on the "members" directory you'll find that Gavin Dalglish owned a sunbird 28.

He lives in south Britanny and his boat, a Corribee Coromendel is presently on the Vilaine river.

There are at least three other junk rigged boat on the Vilaine river.

    Amicalement

    Eric

I am the happy new owner of a Colvic Craft Sunbird 28 junk rigged and I search any informations about this boat (history of the models, plan, sail details , ….)

It seems that the boat was building in 1983 and imported in France in late 90’s, named Capricorn.

The boat is actually at Granville.

Thank you if you know something about this boat
