    I’m looking for a tapered aluminium mast approx 8 meters long for a 20 sqare meter Johanna style junk sail plan. Does anyone know of a source in the UK

    Hi Bill, I sourced a 7m one for my Corribee conversion from  Streetlighting supplies and here is a link to their 8m one (actually 9m because they size them according to 'above ground' height). I negotiated to have mine supplied without the access door near the bottom and without the expanded inner tube stiffening insert. The 'natural brushed aluminium' finish is quite rough but after a couple of days of sanding I got a nice smooth finish.  I should say it took a few months to come, they are made in the Netherlands and these guys are the distributers.

    Hi Jes, thanks for your reply I had got that info from your utube videos which are fantastic and I am following them as a guide. The extra info and the spec you sent is exactly what I need. I am going to convert my Hunter Liberty 23 to junk rig and have a design from Arne. I think the Corrobee sail is exactly right for my boat but am a bit concerned about the mast position being too far forward in its present location. I watched your video on sail making and intend to follow it closely. I brought the hot knife you suggested but wondered about the extra piece you made to enable cutting the cloth any info on that would be gratefully received. I will contact the streetlight people about the mast. Thanks for your help and great videos.

    Hi, glad the videos are helpful.  Here are some pics of my improvised foot for the hot knife which worked well for me. The bend in the foot needs to be adjusted so that the knife blade just enters the slot
