The Silverrudder has a huge resonance in Northern Europe!

Every year, Yacht Magazine (the most important German nautical magazine, where Pau and Ilvy have already appeared)) features a long article about this competition.

I imagine a good part of the next issue will be dedicated to Paul and Ilvy, no matter what position they finish in...

I like to imagine her next participation with a sponsored carbon mast and composite sail... but I have to admit, the thing I like most to imagine is the expression of the participants behind a boat sporting a marvelous yellow homemade junk sail and a lamppost instead of a mast!

    Go Paul!!!!

    Impressive squared!

Lying 55th, making better than 6 knots with 13 miles to go, and elapsed time more than 32 hours. That's quite a difficult race to complete, in a close packed single handed fleet and a tricky passage through the tight and twisty Lillebaelt on a moonless night.

    What a race!

I have been following it, on and off for the last 25 hours. At some point, late on yesterday, the last 11 boats lost contact with the rest (64 total in this class). Ilvy struggled on the westward leg, north of Fyn. When I went to bed, I feared she would end up last. Then, as I had a look sometime during the night, Ilvy had started to climb on the list during the very light headwind pass through the Lillebælt sound. Unbelievable! Now, around 6pm, after a long close-hauled leg, they have been able to head more east. Right now, at time 17:54, Ilvy is doing 5.7 kts, around ¾ kts faster than those around her. Only two boats in this 10-boat group are ahead of her.

    Impressive!

    Cheers from my wheelchair,

    Arne

Thanks a lot for your support! :-)

The beamreach leg yesterday was pure joy, hitting 8.5kn at times, normal speed 7.5. (I couldnt help but a flicker of a smile was on my face when I saw some of those huge kites go chaos in a gust, while I just needed to ease the sheet :-P )

Since the beamreach leg to Korshavn, we are loosing positions. Only upwind all the time... Got set back to 63 (of 64)

However, the group was stuck in a calm, but Ilvy was able to ghost through them. Almost like magic. Now back in the fifties again.

Still a lot upwind to go. 50nm to the finish line!
