I agree, lots to do yet.

We have, at least, a good start. The masts arrived, all dressed with halyards etc. They have been inspected, repaired where necessary and repainted.

The sails were rolled up with their battens in their pockets then enclosed with their sail covers. The battens need to be refitted with anti-chafe material, the old being dried out leather gone hard. Could they be soaked with water and revived? Whatever, I'll do something even if it's temporary.

Yes, lots of work left to do. There will be detail work with the battens, Ideally they should be sanded and recoated, but that can wait. I have a a month before I go on my annual visit to family in Vancouver. I'll be gone three weeks, precious days this time of year. On return, we are into October. Boat haul-outs end mid November. (I do have the option of staying in the bubbler system over winter. Many do.)

But first, sea trials with my new motor. That should not take long.

    Good, Jim!

I hope you are able to scramble some help with the rigging work. Time is running terribly fast while rigging, and you actually have two rigs to sort out.

    Good luck!

HOBBIT II, dock side on launch day

She is a Benford 30 Sailing Dory, a thirty foot version of BADGER, also known as a Baby Badger, with the same layout but a schooner junk rig. For power, she has an Electric Yacht , QT 10.0 Sport Motor electric motor. She formerly had a Yanmar YSB12 diesel motor.  I changed the hull colour from black  to dark green (Same as TELEPORT).

After a long, drawn out process, with significant pauses, divergences and delays, HOBBIT II, previously known as ELSIE N, was launched August 8, 2022, at Armdale Yacht Club,  Halifax, N.S., Canada.

The next step is o familiarize myself with the behavior of the boat not having ever had it in the water and with the operation my new electric motor.

After that, comes stepping the masts, bending on sails and sailing trials. Looming soon forward, is a scheduled trip to Vancouver, Sept. 15 - Oct.6 which includes a side trip to Prince Rupert to visit TELEPORT and her new owner.
