Others might not agree, but in my opinion, for your boat, the answer is "no", unless you are keen to read. Van Loan is focussed mainly on a particular, large, low yard-angle rig and timber mast - it's good background, but perhaps not essential. Hasler/McLeod is much more comprehensive and you will going back to refer to it very often. Bear in mind though, for all that it is the classic text, much development has taken place since H/M was published. In my opinion the next most important read (and in some ways more useful, practical  and certainly more up-to-date) is Arne's Notes which are available to all, on this website. If the split junk rig happens to appeal to you, then you will want to read Slieve McGalliard's notes - also available in the documents section. You will find McKay there if you fancy the aerojunk rig, and Jon Ulmer if you are thinking of flat cut (Jon Ulmer also gives a very good reading list for further source material). All available in the Documents section of this website.

In summary, I would say: have Hasler/McLeod by your side, don't start until you have read Arne Kverneland - and for further reading delve into the Technical section of Documents on this website. Finally, once you get started, people like David T., Arne K., Paul T., Slieve and others who have lots of experience have, over the years, provided much valuable advice in the form of questions answered on this forum, which are all still on the website to be delved into.
