Look on the bright side - it will get you used to living in the even smaller space of your boat!  Best of luck.

I (Martin) have build many of those drum rafts in my life. I was part of "Voortrekkers", like boy and girl scouts, in my younger days and we had what we called "water camps" every June holidays (mid winter here), where we built and sailed/rowed these rafts on a dam. Also rafted down river in these rafts....and sometimes in truck tire tubes too, for week long passages.

We also had a few Junk-Raft designs, but 2de hand plastic drums in South-Africa cost about $25 each these days. The design called for more than 50 drums, 3 JoJo tanks (large 2600l water tanks)to be used as cabins, 60m + of timber and steel, and miles and miles of line. In the end cost came into play, and truth is that Ply over frame would cost just a bit more than the Junk Raft. Nothing is free in South-Africa

I have seen Floating Neutrinos. Also looked at PlasTiki  and Junk too. All of these has  given us much of our inspiration. They are proof that on a low budget like ours,  we can follow our dream. They may not have the looks, they may not sail the best, they are all risky to travel upon, but you use what you have.

On a side note, our move is done, just unpacking things, which is a bit of a nightmare going from 2 bed room apartment to just a room. We will soon start  the planning phase of our 1/3 model/dingy. No rush as there aren't much funds free at this time.

If that's the sort of thing you're thinking of, I also know where to find pictures of cheap square-rigged multihulls.  Decent downwind speed, I am not sure how weatherly they are:

    123

For low cost materials, it's hard to beat The Floating Neutrinos (http://www.floatingneutrinos.com/).  They even flew what seems to be a combination of junk and square rig.  Weatherliness, which I consider an important aspect of seaworthiness, seems to be disdained as bourgeois luxury.  I have no information on their crafts' structural integrity.  That might be better than it looks.

Here is a picture of a catamaran.  Engine-driven again, and I would rather not try to convert it into a sailboat. http://personal.southern.edu/~sbauer/Funstuff/Chevy-Boat/Chevy-Boat.htm

    Thanks all.

We aren't stopping the dream....just with the strapped funds we are forced to take it slower.

And on the trimaran on apolloduck. We have seen her, but even that bargain boat is out of our reach, price wise.

We are just two broke people, living in a third world country, dreaming of the impossible.

Keep going and keep dreaming.  I don't know how it happens, but somehow, if you really want to do something, it becomes possible.  You see and seize opportunities, you keep focussed (aka obsessed) and you keep reading about all the other people who also did it, so that you know that it's perfectly realistic.  Sure, you have to go without heaps of things that most people regard as perfectly normal, but it's a really small price to pay for the freedom of living your own life.

You couldn't build a seaworthy boat for the current asking price. If she's sound, and the mast is suitable for JR, would-be junkies looking for a trimaran ought to go and get themselves a bargain.

Don't give up on the dream! Dreams are free.

While your plans are on hold, there's time for a lot of research. Have you read Voyaging on a Small Income, by our very own Annie Hill? Pete and Annie made a N. Atlantic circuit in a Wharram 28ft, Stormalong, as their first step up the passage making learning curve, and I think there's a great deal you might learn from this book, if you haven't already.
