Hi all, while my focus has been on blue water boats suitable for conversion, I have found a shallow draft free standing mast cat ketch boat on a trailer.  Lots of teak, diesel inboard, located nearby The price is next to nothing.

Trailer certainly solves a lot of the expense of boating in Newport RI where a mooring alone for summer is $2,500!  Then add winter storage when the harbour freezes in winter.

What do members think of a junk rig conversion?  Concern is mast strength and extra weight aloft of a gaff n battens?

Here is a pic of the very thing I just stumbled on while writing this!  Looks as if he has certainly minimized "weight aloft"!!!!

    Penny for your thoughts!

    David.
