I'm very interested. This is my dream boat. I'm based in Alaska so the only question is how to get it here. Is the owner active on this forum? I'd love to speak with them. The only number I can find is for the broker.

If you use the "Reply" function on the Craig's Listing, he should get back to you

The listing has been removed which makes me think it has been sold

I spoke with the owner via email last week and he was expecting a local sale in the next few days.

I envy that lucky sailor about to buy, what a beautiful boat!  Wishing them happiness, adventure and fair winds with their new vessel.

I recall, poorly, a story that was published maybe 15 years ago of a young man (25) whose last name was Campbell who planned a single handed, round the world voyage in his NA-29 from his home port in Hawaii. However, once he had his boat loaded with enough supplies to make the voyage, he realized there was not enough free space left to manage the voyage so he called it off. If he rescheduled with a larger boat, I don't know.

I wonder if this is the same NA-29. Don't recall its name, either.

I have not heard of anyone called Campbell, but I know that the Hawaiian sailor, Brian Caldwell, who briefly held the record for the youngest solo circumnavigator in 1996 (with stops), on his Contessa 26, Mai Miti Vavau, later announced he was commencing a non-stop solo circumnavigation on a NA29 but did not get underway.  Almost certainly the same boat because there were only a few of this production model built.  Perhaps this is who you were remembering, Jim?  About 10 years ago, Brian sailed a Vega 27 across the Pacific to Australia, between yacht deliveries, in company with Mai Miti Vavau, then being owned by a friend of his.  Sadly, both boats were badly damaged in a cyclone the following summer in Queensland, and their voyages were abandoned.

I think you have solved the mystery. So, Brian Caldwell.  Interesting how memories get twisted. Thanks for filling in the blanks! Would anyone happen to know the name of that NA-29 today?

A sad outcome for those other two boats.
