Wanderer Dinghy – Excellent Condition – New Combi Trailer – Two Rig Options

I am selling my lovely Wanderer dinghy, which is one of the best early examples you will find. The boat is in superb condition throughout, with particularly good woodwork — far better than many of this age, with none of the usual varnish issues on the thwart and trim.

Last year I purchased a brand new combi trailer from Hartley Boats, so she is ready to tow and sail immediately. These now sell for £1800.

    Key features:•Excellent overall condition

    •New Hartley combi trailer (2025)

    •New Hartley cover

•Standard rig with very good sails

    •Includes furling drum for genoa

    •Outboard bracket

•Hardwood gunwales fitted (both practical and very smart)

    Two rig options included

In addition to the standard rig, the boat also comes with a custom-built junk rig conversion, which I designed and made from a tried and tested design. Reefing involves releasing the halliard from the cleat shown on the thwart. The whole sail can be dropped instantly into the boat, or reefed panel by panel, one of the great advantages of the junk rig.

    This includes

•Two-part mast (easy to step and fits within the boat for transport) with special treatment to prevent corrosion.

•Fully battened sail made with ripstop fabric.Powder-coated aluminium battens

•Storage bags for sail and topmast. The boat sails very well with this setup, which offers easy handling and instant reefing, making it particularly suitable for relaxed cruising or family sailing. Importantly, the boat can still be used with the original standard rig, so you have complete flexibility.

    Condition & build quality

I am a retired architect and have spent many years restoring and building boats. A great deal of care and thought has gone into this example, including reinforcement to the mast step area for the alternative rig.

This is not a rough modification, but a well-executed and attractive upgrade that complements the boat.

    Reason for sale

Simply that, at 75, I no longer have the energy to use her as she deserves.

    Please note.

There is the option of purchasing a 2.5hp four stroke Suzuki outboard for £450

This is for collection only from near Milnthorpe in Cumbria but I might be able to meet part way(say up to 75 miles) for delivery provided the boat is already paid for.
