Tao Zou is a Polish registered Junk sloop. She has successfully sailed singlehandedly from the Azores to the Canaries and thence to the Caribbean before returning to the Canaries via the Azores. Having bought her at the bottom of Tenerife, I single handed her back to Terceira in the Azores. A delightful 1000 NM sail with stops in Santa Maria and San Miguel. She is back on the market as I am purchasing a larger vessel for my wife and I to sail the South Pacific.

   Tao Zou is an incredible Singlehander and would make a serious Jester Challenger with her remarkable turn of speed. Her mast is a one piece aluminum lamp pole and very stiff. Her cambered sail is in great condition. She carries multiple anchors, a Ronca, Spade, Bruce, a Danforth and a manual anchor windless to drag them aboard. Her engine is a Volvo MD5 in good running condition and well maintained having just had an oil and filter change. As for engine hours, there is no hour meter and the seller to me said that, when she was in the Caribbean, she had an overhaul before leaving for the Azores. Not having any idea of the engine time I assigned 2000 hrs at the time of purchase and have kept a time log since. Currently it’s 2056. Her Morse control cables were just replaced and the shift/ throttle lever rebuilt.

   There is a 4 man life raft aboard which probably needs servicing. She comes with an Avon Red Crest dinghy, oars, motor mount and two horse outboard. At her stern is a custom made wind vane which is the most stable pendulum servo vane I have sailed with. The course setting lines lead back to the pilot house so course changes are easy. She has a pair of flex-able solar panels totaling 150 amps and I have never been low on power on any of my voyages.

I have spent scores of hours comfortably sitting on the watch keepers seat in the pilot house watching the seas roll under Tao Zou’s hull while sailing along day after day.
