    From the 1979 Chrysler-26 Owner's Manual

Another good place to start is Arne's notes which you can find on this website at members' area/documents/technical files - or just click here.

Chapter 3 p2 of Arne's notes answers your question "why?".

    Hope that helps.

Hello Michael, probably the best starting point for you is to obtain a copy of the book Practical Junk Rig which will outline all the various considerations when converting to junk rig. This includes placement of the mast. Another way to go would be to obtain a line drawing of the vessel which shows both the bermudan sail plan, and underwater profile including keel or centerboard, and then some of our knowledgeable and experienced JRA experts will be able to help you with this. But it is all dependent on establishing the Center of Lateral Resistance of the hull, and then determining where the Center of Effort of the sail plan should be.

I believe I have found the hull I want to build my conversion to junk sail. Chrysler 26'

    Lol 26', Lwl 22', Beam 8', draft 6' keel down - 2.3' keel up. 6' head room.

    Displacement 4,250 Lbs.

My question is, How do you determine the proper placement of the unstayed mast?

    And why please.
