Oh, and the name Rikki Long - is after my gekko Rikki (Long for Chinese Dragon, pronounced as lun) :)

Will be used mostly in fresh water: rivers and lakes, occasional seashore possible.

Good day. Just for loging it :) A few years ago I've started to build 18-ft wooden boat, regular micro-cruiser with large interior for it's size and Bermudan rig. I could do the building work only during Summer time (June-August usually) while living in the countryhouse. So, it took 3 seasons to do the job.

As time went, I changed project slightly. First, transom was reversed to have aft rake and overall frame distance was slightly increased to produce 20 ft (6 m) LOD length.

Second, after spending (too much) time on laminated round frames, I decided to speedup with plywood instead of strip planking and diagonal veneer. So, after studyinf Dudley Dix 'Cape' plywood series - I decided to use that approach. It is more time consuming to make it nice (compared to regular multichine plywood because of need to make nice overlapping edges, hard to fiberglass them), but looks great. And anyway turned out much faster that round bilge cold moulded wood.

Then I added broad bow deck a-la jonques-de-plaisance and developed rear deck beams for sheeting blocks as well as wooden rails to secure it all up to 90 cm height at aft and front decks.

Balklast is casted concrete with steel frame and a lot of steel scrap in it - making it 450 kg total in the long keel. Water is 70 liter soft tank.

Below I have saloon with folding table and extenable bunk (up do double bunk) and under cockpit another double bunk with sitting height under left cockpit seat.

Small galley with sink and opposite - small but separate head with bio-toilet and sitting shower. In order to have place for all of it, the rear cabin in accessible only under the entrance ladder crawling - so it is more for my teen kid.

I've also installed 48v 110 Ah battery and 48v motor is in the keel end, with controls on deck in the steering wheel box. 12v small battery supplies lights and water pressure.

Sail is made as per Arne's articles, pretty close to Froken Sorrenson plans. Used orange Oxford 120 g/m2 cloth. Mast is of two tubes: 6m 100x5 mm, inserted 3m 90x5 mm (60-70 cm bury). Resulting ~8.4 m total length.

Boat is now awaiting final paint round and some minor interior tweaks as well as registration.

    Photos from late construction phase.
