G'day Bill. Have fun. Take your time and learn as much as you can. As you haven't started your build yet, you can "start at the end" and begin to consider things you may need/want to adjust the design to accommodate a junk.

    Cheers! Steve.

    Congratulations!

Thank you. Not a very good video, but I should get some better footage this weekend. I'm entering my trailer-sailer club's season opening race. I don't have too high expectations but I think I just might be in with a silly chance!

Thanks for that Zachary. Some of those solutions are a bit of overkill for my little boat, but I think I can adapt the sheetlet system shown there to some extent. I think my sheetlets are a bit long for one thing. Also I need a tidier arrangement for my mainsheet line to attach. The solid board idea shown there looks like a neat and simple solution. I actually had something similar on my previous junked TS16, but I went away from it on this one. At least I have some ideas to work on.

No  experience myself unfortunately, but the other day I was looking through Arne’s public domain files and happened to be reading about his soft euphroes. There’s tonnes of information on anti twist sheeting arrangements! https://junkrigassociation.org/resources/Documents/Arne%20Kverneland's%20files/20200905%20Fixes,%20adjustments%20and%20improvements%20on%20Ingeborg,.pdf  It starts on page five. I’m hoping it is ok for me to share the link.

In any case, best of luck!

Went well, but a couple of tweaks were needed. I am getting quite a bit of sail twist when reefed about half way. Any suggestions? Fully hoisted she's nice and straight and behaves well.

Looking ever so fancy! Love the leeboard and blunt step-through nose that Jim Michalak uses in so many of his boats. How did the shakedown go?

    all the best,

    Zachary.

I have finally fitted my new junk sail to Cool Change. Heading off in a few hours for her first shakedown sail. She looks quite a sight with her new get-up!

The sail came together quite well after a few restless nights thinking through and constructing the sail, but in the end I think it's a perfect match. Cool Change is a Michalak designed "Blobster". Quite a junk-like design in itself. Self-built in 2019 and initially fitted with the standard balanced lug, she sails very well and is surprisingly stable and seaworthy for a 16' boat. Water ballasted with a drop-down leeboard, she has a roomy open slot cabin which I have made a demountable fully enclosed canvas cover for for overnight cruising.

I'll get a good chance to fine tune and balance the sail over then next few days as I cruise Lake Alexandrina and the lower Murray River here in South Australia over the next 4 days.

This is the 4th junk sail I have built, so hence not much time on this forum with the usual questions. The sail is constructed of "heavy" weight ripstop nylon, with all aluminium tubes for mast, yard, boom and battens.
