    Hi Annie,

The opti has a 'yard' attached to the mast which supports the top of the Quadrilateral sail, so I'm presuming it will be too short for the equivalent Junk rig.  We're going to make a hole in a piece of wood, so the rig will stand up in the classroom (thus avoiding the need to carry around the dinghy!)

I agree, it could be a lot of fun!  Bamboo is plentiful here and with a polytarp sail would help to reinforce the idea that you can make the rig yourself and dont need to be rich westerners to sail

I don't pretend to know anything about the technicalities of JR, but surely if the Oppie mast is unstayed to being with, it should be strong enough for a JR?  Bamboo battens are so a propos (please excuse lack of accents - WA isn't too helpful on these).  Should be a fun rig.:-)

Could anyone tell me if one already exists and how to get my hands on it?

Rene  and I were originally going to make model to take into schools. it occurred to us that we might as well make something that we can actually use on our dinghy.

We'll be using bamboo for spars as it's available, Do I assume the diameter of the original opti mast is not substantial enough - I was going to lengthen it with a wooden taper, unless advised to contrary.

    Would appreciate any advice

    Lesley and René

Btw I have run a JRA site search without finding anything.
