    Hear, hear!

My old JR friend, Victor Winterthun has decided it is time to swallow the anchor. He has therefore put his junk-rigged IW31 for sale. See ad below:

Her cambered panel sail has been constructed by Sebastian Hentschel’s workshop, Tunchwerkstatt, If it is as well made as Sebastian’s own sails on Peregrine, it is no doubt good. Victor’s rig is in sail away conditions.
However, the interior  is far from ready, and the old inboard diesel has been replaced with a new 6hp 4-stroke Tohatsu plus (optional) an electric motor.

The IW-hull itself, designed by Sparkman & Stephens, and built in Sweden, is a great cruising design (3.6 ton disp).

Victor lives at Stord, about 100km north of Stavanger, Norway.
You can contact him via e-mail:
    sailor@winterthun.net
    or via telephone (landline) : +47 5341 5740 or mobile phone: +47 9751 6065

If you prefer to do some interior carpentry instead of a full JR conversion job, you could hardly get a finer JR sloop at that price; 35.000NOK (=4.177EUR, 3.302GBP or 5.654USD)  -  without stealing it!

    Cheers, Arne

Sounds like a really good buy, Arne. She would be a very interesting boat to own and one that I'm sure will sail excellently.  I hope that she soon gets snapped up.

A real classic, could I be tempted?  On my proposed Bergen - Stavanger cycle route for next month, perhaps worht a look, should I get a one way ticket!!

Sad to hear that Victor has decided to sell.

Guess 'anno domini' catches up with all of us sooner or later.

Having seen Victor's She 31 "Vindbender"(?) inside and out, but unfortunately never sailed her, I can vouch for Arne's description.  The hull and the rig look sound and great value.  The interior could have done with a bit of 'tlc' .

Anyone looking for a 31' junk sloop should not hesitate to take this very seriously.  Well worth a detour, or an Easyjet flight from UK.

Having also sailed a Bermudan She 31 in the stormy 2011 Round the Island race, they are lovely sailing boats.  Go anywhere at any time, efficiently.

An interesting boat, but a most interesting man. My best wishes to you Victor,

    Cheers

I met Victor last week and had  good look at the boat.  Unfortunately too windy to go for a sail.  My thoughts were that is a good hull & rig,  the interior I would probably strip back and start again.  It does also need some work to make thoroughly seaworthy, (such as replacing the cockpit locker lid) this would need say a fortnight to put right if you where to sail her across open water.  Anyone with the time to spare will end up with a very nice boat.  Victor was thinking of selling the bits and scrapping the hull, which should get back the amount he is offering it for at present.  This is very sad as he has put a lot of work and ££ into the rig etc.

If anyone would like more info, give me a call / private e-mail, I can send photos.

    Cheers Mark

On second thoughts you could make her more seaworthy in less that 2 weeks, accepting that some jobs are temporary.  For instance, screwing and sealing a piece of ply over a dodgy hatch would not take long.

Victor has had two people very interested, so if you are, do not hesitate.

Here's wishing Victor best of luck.
