Pulling the sails forward?

    Hi Patrick,

I have added a "boom hauling parrel" going via a block at the partners area and to the middle of the boom.  Pulling this parrel helps pulling the lower part of the sail forward, but it does not always move easily, as my two luff hauling parrels often are not very willing to "yield" when I slacken them.

    Hello dear junkists friends,

Here is a question concerning the control lines on the sails of China Blue (as an exemple).

On this boat, the masts have no forward rake, so the sails do not tend to naturally hang towards the forward side of the masts.

There are 3 control lines to adjust the position of the sails in relation to the masts:

    - The yard hauling parrel, that pulls the top of the sail (via the yard) towards the front of the mast.

    - An upper luff hauling parrel, that pulls the 3 upper battens towards the rear of the mast (and also, pulls them tight against the mast).

    - A lower luff hauling parrel, that pulls the 3 lower battens towards the rear of the mast (and also, pulls them tight against the mast).

There is no way to move the sail further towards the front of the mast.

I was wondering if by somehow being able to pull the sails forward, it would help fighting the boat's weather helm tendency.

It seems to me that it would make sense on a one mast rig, although this is just an impression I have.

I don't know if it makes any sense on a schooner, butI'm eager to have your thoughts on that idea.
