Sometimes it plays not to listen to those who seem to know more. I spent a good part of yesterday fiddling with the outboard and by the end of it I had the leg off and both broken bolts removed. I did an inspection of the impeller and it's in good condition. So it seems I still have a viable outboard. Though I will need to get a little bit of alloy welding done just to build up a bit of casting I had to grind down.
Looks like I'll be hoisting sail much sooner than I thought.

I clicked on the Redwing 2012 naming vid as well...and yes, not me and boring.

Good news today is the outboard bracket is back on...just need a motor now.:)

One of our Jojn In projects is to make a video of how the rig works. Robin Blain used to take a working desktop model junk to the events that he organises, may still do, so that members and guests could see how the rig works, by hoisting sails, easing sheets etc. The  Join In project would use a real boat to illustrate this. It could all be done at a dock on a calm day. It wouldn't need professional style commentary, just someone like you talking to  himself. You probably do that anyway...

I can see it now, you stepping on the boat, showing where the lines are and how they're stowed, hoisting the sail with zero effort... Explaining how your control lines work... Then sailing away from the dock as the breeze picks up, a tinnie in your hand and the ocean in your eyes... Edited by your tame video man, this could work a treat. It's way past time we did something like this.
I'll second that. The launching video is so good that I'm sure the sequel "Redwing 2" will be a surefire box office success.

[you know how, when a youtube video has finished, they suggest things you might also like to see? Amongst them was "redwing 2012 naming ceremony", so naively and without checking the date, I though that "Redwing 2" had already been made. Alas, it was some boring motor launch or other, somewhere in America.]

Very pleased that you hope to have a go, Gary. I know you'll make a great job of it. Why delay? Split the sailing sequence in two by sailing off the dock. Anchor to demonstrate the ropes, then sail back on :-)

Brian that is a good idea and I'll put the idea to him. I am presently engineless so it may be a little while before it happens.

Sorry to hear about more mechanical woes!

I've just caught up with the forum... and just watched your video.  Fantastic!!  Well done and what a great way to capture the early life of Redwing.

Thanks Peter. One of the benefits of having a good friend in the film industry.:-)

Oh dear, oh dear.  Few things worse than an unreliable motor.  Sorry to hear of your struggles, Gary.
