    Antoine,

Good to see your pics.  What a lovely boat,  if I lived a bit closer I would have snapped her up.  Looking at the underwater hull profile (ie not much) she is going to be a real flyer.  I see the mast is high in relation to the sail,  could you add an extra panel, or perhaps two?  Look at Marie G,  she has a very short drift (yard to mast head block) and Ketil says it is no problem and better aerodynamics.

    Cheers Mark

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking the same about the upper luff parrel.

Thind is I work from photos Scot sent me. I cannot see any fixed parrel anywhere. I guess I will let it like that for now on. I can't wait to have the boat in water and try it. But still some paint touchups and some paperwork to do. Hope next week.

I read your thread about Sunbird rig (WaterBear being definitively one of those) and I quite agree with you. I am not yet very kind of hinged battens and I was thinking, before redoing a complete sail replacing them with carbon fiber poles.

    We'll see.

That parrel setup looks pretty similar to my standard Sunbird rig, with the minor exceptions:

On mine, the upper luff hauling parrel from second to third batten from top goes around the mast the other way - same as the lower two.

The bottom of the lower luff hauling parrel goes from the lowest batten direct to a block on the deck - yours goes around the mast again before doing that. Seems to me that will add friction without any noticeable gain in sail control.

Having said that, you don't appear to have a fixed parrel on the lowest batten - mine does - so perhaps this extra loop is intended to perform that function? I think I would remove it, and put a fixed parrel on that batten.

    Hi Arne

I have done as you said and uploaded 3 pics of the current state of rigging. I think I might be wrong with the parrels. Also, I have no clue how to tie the ends of lazy jacks to the rope eyes on the boom, there is a very short length of rope before a big fluffy thing.

Arne, I may just do that, a complete new sail, but for now, i prefer set everything up and try the boat before doing any change. But I guess we will talk again soon about that new sail ...

    Cheers

    Hi

Antoine, why  don't you open your own Member Personal Album under your profile. It would be much easier for us to find photos related to your stuff there. Remember to add captions under the photos (everybody!). I have bags of photos under my profile. I mostly crimp them to 1024 pixels along the long side before uploading.

Anyway, good luck with your project; I have always liked the Water Bear, except I would fit a larger, cambered panel sail, surprise, surprise...

    Hi all

    Mast is in place !

Step by step, things are coming along. Still waiting for administrative work, so no splash yet but i should try hoisting sail inside the shed this weekend, if everything goes as I expect.

Hi all and thanks for the kind words.

Just a small update. WaterBear is now on the dry in the shed of our shipyard. I will take a couple of weeks to figure everything out. And to take care of the massive annoyement that is the paperworks to be done with customs and other administrations. But job has been in the way, cuttong off two weeks of my scheduled vacations. So things are going slowly

Annie, I will update my profile with a picture asap.

Well done, Antoine!  I am thrilled to hear that this inspirational little ship is obviously going to someone who will love and appreciate her.  And what an adventure for Water Bear, to end up in La Belle France!  I wish you many wonderful adventures together and hope that we will read about them in the magazine (with lots of photos!)

Talking of which, would you post an 'avatar' or yourself, so we know who we are talking to.  It makes it all a bit friendlier.

PS, I'm so glad that I have helped you become a 'junkie'.  I'm sure you won't regret your decision for a moment.
